A second SNP, rs4634050, within the same KALRN haplotype block associated with “Binge drinking in the previous 30 days.” This association is of particular interest as a recent report indicates that children of alcoholics, who are themselves at risk for developing alcohol abuse, also show altered activation of these same areas during MID reward anticipation (Yau et al., 2012), while non-alcohol abusing individuals with a family history of alcoholism also show greater impulsivity in a human version of the 5-CSRTT (Sanchez-Roige et al., under review). Here, KALRN is linked to alcohol dependence.
