Despite the fact that Lichtinghagen et al. [60] observed higher MMP-9 protein levels in cancer tissue than in normal tissues obtained from 17 patients with prostate cancer they did not show the significant correlation between the mRNA and protein expression of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in either cancerous or noncancerous tissue. The gene discussed is MMP2; the disease is prostate cancer.
