NFIA and astrocytoma (excluding glioblastoma): Three studies provide evidence that NFIA can act as a tumour suppressor: 1) increased expression of NFIA is observed in lower grade astrocytomas and is associated with improved survival [58], 2) NFIA inhibits the oncogenic transformation of chicken fibroblasts when overexpressed [16] and 3) inactivation of NFIA by transposon insertion potentiates tumour formation in the mouse brain [17–20].
