Emerging evidence supports a central role of the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome, comprising NACHT, LRR NLRP3, apoptosis-associated speck-like CARD-domain protein (ASC), and caspase-1, in the pathogenesis of various liver diseases including NAFLD, liver fibrosis, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and drug-, pathogen-, or endotoxin-mediated pathology8, 9, 10, 11. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
