Increased miR-21, miR-148a, and miR-126 in lupus CD4+ T cells reduced the expression of DNMT1 directly or indirectly, leading to DNA hypomethylation and overexpression of autoimmune-associated methylation-sensitive genes such as CD70, lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1), and CD11a [24–26]. This evidence concerns the gene ITGAL and systemic lupus erythematosus.
