Ben-Shoshan et al. [15] have pointed out that 1,25-(OH)2D3 could inhibit the protein expression of HIF-1α by inhibiting transcriptional activity of HIF-1 and its target genes, such as VEGF and endothelin-1 (ET-1), thus delaying the occurrence and development of DKD by reducing angiogenesis and inhibiting cell proliferation. This evidence concerns the gene EDN1 and diabetic kidney disease.
