The TB group showed high levels of hepcidin and ferritin with low levels of MCV, low MCH values, and low serum iron (Figs. 3 and 4); the microcytic and hypochromic anemia observed in the LC-06-JCK–bearing mice suggested that increased hepcidin production might have inhibited iron utilization and led to iron-deficiency anemia. Here, HAMP is linked to anemia.
