These discoveries suggest that cancer cell-associated TF serves not only as a ligand for endothelia-associated galectin-3 in cell adhesion but also as an activator for endothelial translocation of intracellular galectin-3 to the cell surface, where it may prime the endothelium for subsequent binding/docking of circulating tumor cells in metastasis (45).
