Mujica-Coopman et al. [9] reported in a systematic review that highest prevalence of anemia (ranging from 7.6% to 18.7%) in children under 6 years of age was found in countries of Latin America and the Caribbean (on the basis of one of three abnormal values for erythrocyte protoporphyrin concentration, serum ferritin concentration and/or transferrin saturation). The gene discussed is TF; the disease is anemia (phenotype).
