Metformin has previously been shown to decrease urinary albumin excretion in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.20 However, in the ADOPT study (A Diabetes Outcomes Prevention Trial), the largest study to address the changes of urine albumin excretion with rosiglitazone, metformin, and glyburide monotherapies, metformin therapy did not change albuminuria in the first year. This evidence concerns the gene ALB and diabetes mellitus.
