Furthermore, our findings suggested that surgical intervention could influence oxidative DNA damage and antioxidant defense status only in case patients with BCC but not control subjects with nonmalignant skin diseases because tumor removal was observed to be related to improvement of redox status by reducing 8-oxo-dGuo levels at 6 months postoperatively and enhancing plasma antioxidant defenses including CAT, GPx, and NQO1 activities at 1 month postoperatively.
