SNAP25 and schizophrenia: Notably, even in schizophrenia, where the SNAP-25 levels are significantly lower in the hippocampus (Young et al., 1998; Fatemi et al., 2001; Thompson et al., 2003) and in the frontal lobe Broadman's area 10 (Thompson et al., 1998), an association between the rs1051312 polymorphism of the Snap-25 gene and cognitive dysfunctions was reported (Spellmann et al., 2008).
