A previous pilot, double-blind, randomized, multicenter clinical trial47 has been conducted to study for the first time safety and efficacy of simvastatin in the acute phase of ischemic stroke in terms of the evolution of several inflammation markers (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, ICAM-1, VCAM-1, C-reactive protein, TNF-α, E-selectin, L-selectin, and nitrites + nitrates) and neurological outcome was evaluated at baseline, day 1, 3, 5, 7, and 90. Here, CRP is linked to ischemic stroke.
