As anticipated due to health effects of chronic alcoholism and associated bone marrow suppression, four cytokine levels from hematopoietic (fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2), r = −0.34, p < 0.03; Fractalkine, r = −0.31, p < 0.05) and chemokine (monocyte chemoattractant protein 3 (MCP3), r = −0.31, p < 0.05; interleukin 12 subunit p70 (IL12p70), r = −0.39, p < 0.01) families were significantly negatively correlated with Alcoholism Severity in our sample of alcohol dependent men (Figure 2). Here, FGF2 is linked to alcohol drinking.
