The plasma RANTES concentration ranges observed in our sample (2313 ± 1039 pg/mL, range 588–5258 in alcoholism; 1790 ± 629 pg/mL, range 830–3331 in controls) corresponded with levels reported for African-American males with hypertension (mean = 2772 pg/mL; median = 1543 pg/mL) [39]. The gene discussed is CCL5; the disease is alcohol drinking.
