Among them, the epigenetic silencing of NEIL1 expression in HNSCC, lung adenocarcinoma, lung squamous cell carcinoma, colon adenocarcinoma, and rectal adenocarcinoma was consistent with the findings of previous reports [24, 26, 27], whereas the findings in the remaining 4 cancer types, that is, breast invasive carcinoma, clear cell RCC, papillary RCC, and stomach adenocarcinoma, were novel findings. The gene discussed is NEIL1; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
