Previous studies have shown associations between markers of inflammation andcomponents of MetS.12,13 CRP levels in subjects with MetShave also been reported to be four times higher than those in healthysubjects.12 Our studydemonstrated that subjects with MetS risk factors, even without preexisting diseasesor under pharmacological treatment, already present early changes in hsCRP levels.Taken together, these data suggest that MetS risk factors may be associated withsystemic low-grade inflammation. Here, CRP is linked to metabolic syndrome.
