NLRP3 and major depressive disorder: The NADH dehydrogenase complex I has been implicated in certain neuropsychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder (Andreazza et al., 2010; Mazereeuw et al., 2015), as its dysfunction results in increased ROS leading to a multitude of adverse consequences (Trivedi and Deth, 2014), including activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and lipid peroxidation.
