Suppression of PGC-1α significantly impaired mitochondrial respiration and decreased the metastatic potential of cancer cells.6 Consistent with these findings, as PGC-1α is negatively regulated by miR-485-3p and miR-485-5p, overexpression of miR-485-3p and miR-485-5p significantly reduced mitochondrial respiration and cell migration and invasion in breast cancer cells. This evidence concerns the gene PPARGC1A and breast carcinoma.
