It has been reported that autocrine ligand production can predict sensitivity to gefitinib in wild type EGFR cancers (10 NSCLC lines and 4 HNSCC lines), as gefitinib was significantly more effective at inhibiting the growth of high AREG-producing cell lines compared with the low AREG-producing cells[16].
