It was recently demonstrated that specific cytotoxic CD8+ T cells during an acute viral infection with lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus secrete IFN-γ, thus enhancing the production of IL-6 in BM mesenchymal stromal cells and resulting in an increased number of early multipotent progenitors and committed myeloid precursors in the BM and accumulation of myeloid cells in the periphery [12]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is viral infectious disease.
