Some cross-sectional studies showed that plasma levels of inflammatory markers, such as C- reactive protein (CRP) and cytokines [TNF-alpha (tumor necrosis factor-alpha) and IL-6 (interleukin-6)] as well as adhesion molecules are increased in patients with essential hypertension as compared to healthy individuals supporting the role of inflammation in the pathogenesis of hypertension [28–31]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is essential hypertension.
