In this study, we provided the first evidence that peripheral ischemia/reperfusion-evoked spontaneous licking, i.e., painful dysesthesia observed in mice, is caused by the hypoxia-induced TRPA1 sensitisation to ROS through inhibition of PHD-mediated hydroxylation of an N-terminal proline residue in TRPA1. The gene discussed is TRPA1; the disease is ischemia.
