GPT and periodontal disorder: Several of the same researchers conducted an 18-month longitudinal study of 85 patients with chronic periodontitis in four Japanese university hospitals and found that salivary Alanine Aminotransferase in combination with the ratio of Porphyromonas gingivalis to total bacteria had a sensitivity of 0.4 and a specificity of 0.96 for the prediction of the progression of periodontitis [27]. Salivary Alanine Aminotransferase was increased in individuals with periodontitis disease, as compared with controls in a study of 40 patients in India [28].
