Evolving evidences indicate that P2X7 receptor plays a pivotal role in central nervous system pathology; genetic deletion and pharmacological blockade of P2X7 receptor provide neuroprotections toward various neurological disorders, such as ischemic stroke, neurotrauma, epilepsy, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease12, 13.
