In candidate genes for PCOS (RAB5B), T2D (PPARG and SVEP1), and methylation (DMAP1) we found that a decrease in mRNA expression was paralleled with an increase in DNA methylation, consistent with previous functional in vitro studies demonstrating that an increase in DNA methylation reduces transcriptional activity48, 49. This evidence concerns the gene SVEP1 and polycystic ovary syndrome.
