Although Kastler et al. (2010) found a three-fold higher POU5F1P1 expression in prostate cancer tissue versus surrounding normal tissue, and Pal et al. (2009) have found an association between SNP variants in this region and susceptibility to prostate cancer (and in the case of rs6470517with aggressive prostate cancer), no association has consistently been made between gene expression and prostate cancer risk variants in 8q24 (Gudmundsson et al., 2007) or experimental design has not included both expression and risk variants (Kastler et al., 2010; Pal et al., 2009). The gene discussed is POU5F1B; the disease is Familial prostate cancer.
