Sorafenib, acting as an anti-VEGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), is the first and only approved targeted drug for the treatment of HCC [17-21]; however, in recent phase III trials, other anti-VEGFR TKIs, such as brivanib and sunitinib, did not show clinical benefit. This evidence concerns the gene KDR and hepatocellular carcinoma.
