IFI16 and infection: Johnson et al. and Orzalli et al. reported that HSV-1 specifically targeted IFI16 for proteasomic degradation depending on its E3 ubiquitin protein ligase ICP0 [74, 75], while another report presented that expression of ICP0 alone was not sufficient to degrade IFI16 and infection with ICP0-null HSV-1 could also result in IFI16 degradation [76], suggesting that other viral proteins may also be involved in this process.
