CCL2 and atherosclerosis: This study shows that a combination of food ingredients can attenuate the expression of two key pro-atherogenic genes, reduce MCP-1 driven monocyte migration, induce cholesterol efflux from macrophage foam cells and retard the polarisation of macrophages towards an M1 (pro-inflammatory) phenotype when assessed using a series of well-established in vitro models of atherosclerosis.
