In particular, it was reported in mice that gene deletion of TLR5 (TLR5KO1), which is expressed in intestinal mucosa and recognizes bacterial flagellin, leads to an alteration in gut microbiota that is coupled to the development of Metabolic Syndrome, and which can confer this metabolic phenotype upon transference of TLR5KO1 gut microbiota to WT mice [8]. Here, TLR5 is linked to metabolic syndrome.
