MT-CO3 and malaria: The lowest parasitaemia detected with the COX-III single direct PCR (≤2 parasites/ul found in P. vivax and P. falciparum) is comparable with malaria diagnostic techniques based on mitochondrial or Pfr364 and Pvr47 genes, LAMP isothermal reactions, real time PCR and single PCRs [23, 39, 49, 50]; and better when compared with 18s-rRNA isothermal reactions, real time and multiplex PCRs [37, 51, 52].
