p53 as well as p63 and p73 have been shown to regulate neuronal apoptosis and their activation has been observed in various neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer, Parkinson and Angelman syndromes (Jiang et al., 1998; de la Monte et al., 1997; Seidl et al., 1999; Bui et al., 2009; Benosman et al., 2007; Benosman et al., 2011).
