Interestingly, those patients afflicted with the GI allergy phenotype develop selective gastrointestinal symptoms exclusively—in contrast to systemic anaphylaxis—hours after the ingestion of offending foods [1, 4]; they probably belong to the cell-mediated/non-IgE-mediated or combined IgE- and cell-mediated food allergy types which are generally diagnosed on the basis of the clinical manifestations [1, 4, 5]. This evidence concerns the gene IGHE and anaphylaxis.
