Insertions were documented and were attributed causative trigger in specific cases; among others, LINE-1 insertion were found within the c-myc gene (Morse et al., 1988), or in the tumor-suppressing gene apc (Miki et al., 1992) in breast and colon carcinoma, respectively; in those instances, LINE-1 insertions should have an activating (c-myc) or inhibitory (apc) role, respectively. The gene discussed is MYC; the disease is neoplasm.
