An ideal vaccine targeted against SSTIs should have three main attributes: (1) induction of antibodies to neutralise toxins which cause dermonecrosis and inflammation; (2) induction of antibodies to neutralise CWA proteins believed to be important in the initial attachment of bacteria to host ligands; and (3) the ability to induce a robust IL-17 response to promote neutrophil recruitment to the site of infection and effective bacterial clearance. Here, IL17A is linked to infection.
