IL6 and AIDS: In view of the role of inflammatory activity in the degradation of tryptophan and the lower levels of inflammation seen in the HAART than the HAART-naïve group, depicted by neopterin and perhaps IL-6 and CRP, it is reasonable to assume the higher tryptophan levels in HAART patients to be the results of a partial correction of the HIV/AIDS-induced inflammatory activity in patients treated with antiretrovirals.
