ACHE and Alzheimer disease: Using both experimental and theoretical approaches, we compared the superoxide anion radical (O2.–)-scavenging activities and fAβ formation-inhibiting activities of parent curcumin and its degradation products, and performed molecular docking calculations of parent curcumin, its in vivo metabolites and degradation products with AChE (acetylcholinesterase, an important target for AD therapeutic intervention to overcome the cholinergic deficit in AD), β-amyloid precursor cleavage enzyme (BACE-1, an enzyme important in producing amyloid-β peptide), and other model enzymes.
