The down‐regulation of Esr1, Esr2 and Pgr in Wbp2‐deficient mice causes a significant decrease in GluR2/3 AMPA receptor subunits as well as a significant increase in the mRNA levels of the key post‐synaptic proteins Shank3 (involved in autism and long‐term potentiation) (Peca et al, 2011; Raynaud et al, 2013) and Psd‐95 (with a key role in learning and memory) (Migaud et al, 1998). Here, ESR2 is linked to autism.
