Breakthroughs such as the addition of the mTOR-inhibitor everolimus to exemestane in advanced BC resistant to prior non-steroidal aromatase-inhibitor therapy (Baselga et al. 2012b) and the addition of palbociclib to fulvestrant in patients with advanced BC progressing on prior ET therapy (Turner et al. 2015) illustrate the promise of combinatorial approaches in enhancing established targeted strategies. This evidence concerns the gene MTOR and breast cancer.
