A study in zebrafish models revealed that overexpression of the human KCTD13 transcript in embryos induces microcephaly, whereas knockdown of endogenous kctd13 by morpholino antisense oligonucleotides leads to macrocephaly, recapitulating the mirrored phenotype (i.e. head circumference) seen in 16p11.2 humans [63]. The gene discussed is KCTD13; the disease is microcephaly.
