HMGB1 and HIV-1 infection: Considering that HMGB1 is a danger signal that triggers innate immunity early after pathogen incoming, that it is required for type-I IFN and proinflammatory response, and that it is produced by activated NK cells, we investigated the possible involvement of HMGB1 during NK-pDC crosstalk and the consequences on the fate and antiviral functions of both NK cells and pDCs in the context of HIV-1 infection.
