In initial experiments, we therefore examined if DNA oligonucleotides based on the wild-type GAS5 HREM sequence alone also induced apoptosis in a range of breast cancer cell lines; negative controls were nucleofected with DNA oligonucleotides either with stem complementarity but lacking the GAS5 HRE consensus (stem loop or SL control) or with scrambled GAS5 sequence (Scram control). Here, GAS5 is linked to breast cancer.
