Adhesion molecules and chemokines, including endothelial selectin (E-selectin), vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1), intracellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), fractalkine, interleukine-8 (IL-8), and monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1), regulated on activation of normal T cell expressed and secreted (RANTES), are the crucial pathogenic elements in atherosclerosis and have been reported to be up-regulated in the cells of atherosclerotic lesions [3,4]. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is atherosclerosis.
