EIF4E and cancer: Inhibiting p4E-BP1 in other cancers leads to disruption of the eIF4G:eIF4E complex and downregulation of cap-dependent MCL-1 protein translation (Mallya et al., 2014, Mills et al., 2008, Schatz et al., 2011), which suggested that MLN8237 reduced MCL-1 expression in MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma cells via a shift toward mitotic arrest-inducing degradation and away from cap-dependent MCL-1 translation.
