To investigate whether cell competition takes place at sites of pre-cancerous lesions, we used mutations in the Adenomatous polyposis coli (Apc) genes, which cause hyper activation of the Wnt pathway and induce hyperplasia and benign tumor formations (hereafter referred to as adenomas) in the adult Drosophila midgut [19, 20]. This evidence concerns the gene APC and benign neoplasm.
