CRP and age-related macular degeneration: Despite the somewhat inconsistent findings, one meta-analysis conducted by Hong et al. in 2011 from 11 studies (nine cross-sectional and two prospective) with almost 42,000 participants revealed that those subjects with serum levels of CRP higher than 3 mg/l had a twofold higher likelihood of late AMD in comparison to those subjects having CRP levels lower than 1 mg/l [273].
