Clinical predictors of cardiovascular events assessed by univariate Cox regression analysis were age [hazards ratio (HR) 1.08; 95 % confidence interval (CI) 1.03–1.13, P < 0.01], history of hyperlipidemia (HR 2.96, 95 % CI 1.0–8.37, P = 0.04), treatment with insulin (HR 2.96, 95 % CI 1.12–7.82, P = 0.03) and serum creatinine level (HR 1.01, 95 % CI 1.00–1.01, P < 0.01). This evidence concerns the gene INS and hyperlipidemia.
