Hence the rationale for University College London's forthcoming ‘Depletion of serum amyloid P component in Alzheimer's disease (DESPIAD)’ clinical trial of CPHPC in AD is: (i) that removal of all SAP from the brain by CPHPC will abrogate the direct neurotoxicity of human SAP; and (ii) that stripping of SAP from the cerebral plaques and cerebrovascular Aβ amyloid deposits will promote amyloid clearance.
