ERBB2 and breast carcinoma: Menendez et al. (2005) showed that γ-linolenic acid (GLA) inhibits the expression of the HER2 oncogene in cancer cell lines in vitro and that concurrent administration of GLA and trastuzumab, which is an anti–HER2 antibody, to HER2− overexpressing breast cancer cells caused significant, synergic increases in apoptosis and reductions in cancer growth formation (Das 1999; Simeone et al. 2003, 2004).
