Following on from studies showing strong correlations between the breadth of the Gag CD8+ T-cell response and viral suppression, and inverse correlations for Nef- and Env-specific CD8+ T-cell responses (52), these data provide an entirely independent piece of evidence supporting the central role of Gag-specific CD8+ T-cell responses in the control of HIV infection. This evidence concerns the gene CD8A and HIV infectious disease.
